Fulham 2 Bolton Wanderers 0

TWO GOALS by Andy Cole brought Bolton back earth after their flying start to the Premiership campaign against Charlton last week.

Cole's first, after six minutes, was lucky as he got a deflection on a shot by Zat Knight which Jussi Jaaskelainen had covered.

But he took the second brilliantly, after 83 minutes, leaving Jaaskelainen with no chance after he had been sent clear on the right.

Bolton also had two escapes with Thomasz Radzinski and Cole hitting their post.

But they stubbornly refused to throw the towel in with Jay-Jay Okocha, and especially Gary Speed, doing their best to get things going.

Too often, though, Bolton were trapped by a powerful and pacy Fulham midfield with the result that their front men, especially Kevin Davies, received little real service.

In fact, their best effort came inside the first minute when Okocha beat three men as he cut in from the right and tested keeper Edwin Van der Saw with a powerful left foot shot.

But, over the 90 minutes, Bolton could have few complaints at losing to an impressive looking Fulham side who have proved to be a bogey team to the Reebok outfit ever since they came back into the Premiership.
