Reports suggest Gary Megson is keen to sign the former Blackburn and Chelsea star.
And Newcastle would certainly like to decrease their wage bill by off loading Duff.
However, MEN Sport understands speculation is wide of the mark. And Megson, close to clinching a deal for FC Seoul midfielder Lee Chung-Yong, has no interest in Hull City defender Sam Ricketts.
However, star centre-half Gary Cahill has been linked with a move to Everton if City's riches tempt David Moyes to part with Joeleon Lescott.
Wanderers fly to Holland tomorrow for their three-game, pre season tour.
Manager Megson is delighted by how well his players responded to last week's Austrian training camp.
"It went really well," he confirmed. "The players applied themselves really well."
TOPE Obadeyi, the only Bolton player on duty with first-team experience, last night scored twice in Wanderers' 4-1 victory over Garry Flitcroft's Leigh Genesis team at the Sports Village Stadium.
The former England U-19 striker netted after 15 and 79 minutes and was joined on the scoresheet by Slovak Zoltan Harsanyi and Danny Ward.
Chris Thompson scored the consolation for the Unibond League side who gave former Blackburn and Bolton star Matt Jensen his Leigh debut.

Bit concerned by the "Jaskelaainen to United" rumours though, why would we sell our best player by far for the last 6,7,8 seasons? We would never be able to get a keeper of similar quality with the fee we would get of United, hope he doesn't go, we'd miss him DRASTICALLY!
