GARY Megson will keep faith in Kevin Nolan for Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Sunderland.
Indeed, the Bolton boss will resist temptation to rotate his squad because he doesn’t have enough players!
Megson took off his captain after 64 minutes of Wanderers’ 1-0 defeat to Wigan at the Reebok last Sunday.
“I could have taken any of the midfield players off because they were poor – as they were against Liverpool.
“Kevin had been booked and that was the thinking behind it but I also knew what would come once he got taken off.
“Luckily, he has the character to be able to cope with that and he also has the knowledge what the crowd can be like.
“He is in the same boat as me. It’s difficult but you’ve got to get on with it.
“We haven’t enough players to leave him out for Sunderland even if that was an option.”
Indeed, Megson has recalled Nicky Hunt from his second loan spell with Championship contenders Birmingham City.
Gavin McCann is suspended for the game at the Stadium of Light while Gretar Steinsson is banned for the match atArsenal on January 10.
Nolan is one yellow card away from his second suspension of the campaign.
“Kevin’s record isn’t good and it’s a problem,” admits Megson, who is continuing to scour the market for potential January signings.
He’s been linked with Sunderland’s former United midfielder Kieran Richardson, Wigan’s Ryan Taylor, Jimmy Bullard of Fulham and Newcastle’s Nicky Butt.
Gary Cahill is expected to recover from a hip injury that forced him to miss the Wigan game. He could return in place of Andy O’Brien if Megson sticks with Danny Shittu.
