Bolton make Jussi offer

Jussi Jaaskelainen
BOLTON have offered Jussi Jaaskelainen a new contract to effectively keep him at the club for the rest of his career.

The long-serving Finnish keeper's current deal runs out at the end of the month and they are anxious to keep him.

Aston Villa and Turkish giants Galatasary are keen on taking Jaaskelainen if new terms aren't agreed.

However, MEN Sport understands the 33-year-old fans' favourite has been offered a four-year deal to take him through to 2012.

And negotiations could be concluded now the player's agent has returned from holiday.

However, if Jaaskelainen does stay, it could mean the end of Ali Al Habsi's career at the Reebok.

The Omani international was outstanding at the end of last season when his team-mate was unavailable through a back problem.

And it's unlikely he would want to play second fiddle once more, assuming Gary Megson makes Jaaskelainen his No 1 choice.

Campaign

Indeed, former Bolton assistant boss Phil Brown, now manager of newly promoted Hull City, is reportedly interested in Al Habsi.

Brown is also eyeing right-back Nicky Hunt who will start the new campaign as understudy to Icelander Gretar Steinsson.

However, the former England Under-21 defender is contracted at the Reebok until 2011.

Midfielder Gavin McCann is confident of being fit for the start of the new season.

The Lancashire-born star produced some brilliant displays at the end of last season and played despite a troublesome knee injury.

Immediately after helping Wanderers retain their Premier League status, McCann flew to America for an operation.

"It went well," insists the former Villa favourite.

"All being well I'll be fine when I report back for training next month."

Bolton have had a reported £1.5m bid rejected for Deportivo La Coruna striker Riki.

The La Liga side want to recoup the £3.5m they paid fellow Spaniards Getafe.
