Bolton Wanderers

Newcastle v Bolton: Player ratings

Jaaskelainen - may have expected to have been worked more than his tip away from Milner but happy with rare away clean sheet - 6

Steinsson - impressive debut for the Icelandic international. No coincidence Bolton looked more solid at the back - 7

Gardner - played his part admirably in this useful away draw and looked better with Taylor to help out - 6

Nolan - gave his all before being replaced in the second half but still not at his best. Would loved another wonder goal - 6

A O’Brien - solid performance from the Newcastle old boy who can be well satisfied by his return to St James’ Park - 7

Michalik - had his critics this season but may prove a decent stop gap until Abdoulaye Meite gets back from African Cup of Nations - 7

Guthrie - still relatively new to the Premier League but showed he’s not overawed by the big occasion. They don’t come much bigger - 6

McCann - has been one of Sammy Lee’s more successful signings. Solid and reliable, gets the job done - 6

Davies - worked his socks off as usual but needs more support and Wanderers need a natural goal scorer - 6

J.O’Brien - Bolton’s Mr Versatile. Showed his adaptability by reverting to midfield and didn’t let the side down again - 6

Taylor - another making his first appearance for Wanderers after signing from Portsmouth. Will get better but didn’t let himself down - 6

Subs Al Habsi(GK) - not used.

Samuel (for Taylor 79) - might have won it for Bolton in the dying seconds - 6

Stelios - not used.

Campo (for Nolan 67) - probably disappointed to only be sub but it could be sign of the time for the Spaniard - 6

Cohen (for McCann 75) - slotted in well and at least managed to avoid third successive booking after arrival from Israel - 6
