GARY Megson is poised to become Bolton's new manager after resigning as Leicester City boss last night - but one of his former players has expressed reservations that Wanderers have gone for the right man.
Ex Stockport County favourite Mike Flynn was Megson's captain during his time at Edgeley Park.
And despite the former West Brom and Nottingham Forest boss holding talks at the Reebok Stadium today, Flynn is not sure his strong arm approach will work on players like Nicolas Anelka and El Hadj Diouf.
"He was a winner and tried to instil that into the players," he said. "He had a great zest for life which initially took us all aback.
"There were no grey areas with Gary. He told you how he wanted things and if you fell short, he smacked you back into line.
"In a way he was quite sergeant majorish.
"My big concern though would be how he would handle guys like Anelka and Diouf.
Old school
"He is really from the old school, he hated the idea of flash cars, personalised number plates and big watches. And he told you that as well.
"He had a good playing career but wasn't in the same class as those players.
"I suppose Bolton may be thinking, if the worst comes to the worst, then they have got a manager who knows what it takes to get out of the Championship."
Megson could now be installed before Sunday's home game with Aston Villa.
Leicester are expected to demand £300,000 in compensation and have expressed their concerns about Bolton's approach to the Premier League and the Football Association.

One word "No!"
Gartside doing his mate a favour and bringing in a manager with a distinctly average record everywhere he has been!
Disgracful appointment if it happens, and again shows Gartside's penny pinching habits!
GARTSIDE OUT!!!
Sorry you Lily Whites, but you have been punching way above your weight over the past few seasons. However, since being dumped by Fat Sam, who saw the writing on the wall and jumped ship, you are now firmly where you should be - on the bottom of the table. Therefore Megson IS the right choice for you as he's a proven Championship manager - the game that is! LMAO.
"I suppose Bolton may be thinking, if the worst comes to the worst, then they have got a manager who knows what it takes to get out of the Championship."
hahaha he's going to need to seen as thats where Bolton will by plying their trade next season!!
Totally the right man. He'll put the yonners right back where they belong....
Loved the 5-man "demo" in the dark outside the Reebok..
Hilarious...keep it up!!
:-)
Of course he is.Small town club with no ambition.A marriage made in heaven!
I would be horrified if I were a Bolton fan... Megson produces teams like he played the game, hard working but no real flair, basically not good enough for the top flight.
I wish Bolton but mainly their fans all the best as I can't see Megson motivating Anelka or Diouf - its going to be a long season for you
All the best

GARTSIDE OUT
this guy will take you down mark my words-i just hope its only the one division-a very very poor manager.
Proves Gartside's lack of class and nouce. Couldn't have happened to a nicer club or chairman.
best news I've heard in ages!
Can't stop laughing!
GARTSIDE IN!
Accept your fate it was always going to happen to a small toen team with the worst fans in the Prem league.
You have been deluded these past few years thinking your bigger than City and set yourselves up for a big fall.
Well enjoy your nice trips to sunny Scunny
What will be will be, choices off players and managers is out of our hands as supporters of our clubs.
Its not our choice of manager nor would we ever get any say on who we get, but we have got to wish the guy luck, bring on the villa! and Preston next season
Oh dear- bye bye Anelka
Oh dear- bye bye Anelka
BRILLIANT APPOINTMENT,ITS WHAT BOLTON FANS DESERVE WITH THE CROWDS THAT THEY GET, THEY WILL BE AT HOME IN DIVISION 2 BYE,BYE TROTTERS
I don't think that your new manager will be inspiring too much confidence with the masses or within the ranks for that matter.
Whilst recognising a change in the fortunes of my own club it's impossible to forget what might have been only a few short months ago. Some of the names linked with Pearce's own job at the end of last season was frightening. It still brings me out in a cold sweat.
I am not too sure that Anelka will be impressed with Megson and I can honestly see him moving on in January regardless of how you go in Europe. I wouldn't think that he has the stomach for a long relegation fight. I think that Megson will sell him to raise the cash for battlers. (not bottlers)
Anyway guys good luck for the rest of the season. It's still relatively early. I always want the local sides to do well (with one obvious exception)
I wonder what Big Sam makes of it all considering his close friendship with Gartside. maybe the locals will see Big Sam as the catalyst for the demise. Who knows?
Looks like you're consigned to Championship football, and very dull football from Megson, you Lillywhites. I don't wish that on you despite your chairman, Gartside, and some of you Trotters taking silly little potshots at City. That said, it is very funny to see Mr Gartside in his predicament.

megson is a bad choice ! hes a championship manager.gartside really has to look at himself for not funding big sam,cos he would probably still be there if had some cash to spend, big sam is a good manager,he should have been given the england job bout the f.a. want a yes man ,they got that and we are paying for it now ,no euro ! look at city a bit of cash and theyre a massive club (ive heard it all before).oh and phil as for the trotters having cheap pot shots at city ,i think its called banter between local clubs ! thank god i support MANCHESTER UNITED F.C. oh and phil i do have a season ticket ! which is far to expensive !
Unlucky lads, I feel for you!
Absoulutely not, I'm a City fan, and these are the sort of numpties we used to appoint, .................and where did that get us????? I've no time for Bolton, particularly after Gartside has slagged us off in recent years, but now he has shown exactly how his mind works, and he now has what he deserves, their fans however, because of this, have my upmost sympathy. My guess is this fool won't last 12 months, and Gartside will be in the revolving door behind him when he's fired, and if he's not, then he should be.
Just to think......It could have been us just a few short months ago! Ha Ha Ha

Tell us what its like Phil of Sheffield ,as city have had quite a bit of experience of playing in lower divisions in the last 3 decades?
Meg end.
Martin Jol has left Spurs tonight apparently, quick, give him a ring for christ's sake, you do not want Megson.
