Bolton Wanderers

New boy to sit it out

CHRISTIAN Wilhelmsson has completed his 12-month loan move to Bolton Wanderers.

But the club has been unable to obtain a work permit in time for him to play at Tranmere Rovers this afternoon.

However, their new Swedish international winger may make his debut against UEFA Cup finalists Espanyol next Wednesday.

Nicolas Anelka, who sat out the midweek 3-0 defeat at Hibernian, is added to Sammy Lee's squad.

Anelka has been linked with a £12m move to West Ham but there have been no bids for the club's record signing.

Chairman Phil Gartside says Anelka has told him he doesn't want to leave the Reebok.

However, Wigan and Birmingham are strongly chasing Bolton's Senegalese defender Abdoulaye Faye.

And it could be that Wanderers allow the 29-year-old to leave in a £1.5m deal providing they have a suitable replacement lined-up.

Lee is looking for a big improvement after the tired display at Easter Road.

"By the look of the Hibs game we have got a little way to go," admitted Lee.

"The reason we play these games is to get the side to a level. We learned a lot from the Lyon game and we will learn from that one too.

"Tranmere is going to be another tough game, but that's what we want. We have these games pre-season because we want to know more about aspects of the team - discipline, awareness, tactics.

"The Hibs game was our fifth of the season but not all the lads have played in all five, most have played in portions of games. Bit by bit, it will add up."
