Bolton chase Cisse

Djibril Cisse
DJIBRIL Cisse's agent has confirmed Bolton's interest in Liverpool's French international striker.

Ranko Stojic claims there has been "some contact" with Wanderers for the player who spent last season on loan at Marseille.

And he believes there could be further developments next week after Cisse sits down with Rafa Benitez to thrash out his future.

Liverpool seemingly don't want the flamboyant 25-year-old to go out on loan again.

But they want to recoup some of the £14m paid for him by Benitez's predecessor, Gerard Houllier.

Reports suggest Bolton could get the ex-Auxerre marksman for £4m.

Stojic told M.E.N. Sport: "It is true that has been some contact with Bolton.

Meeting

"I have met up with Sammy Lee on one occasion. He impressed me, not just as a coach, but as a person.

"He is a fantastic man. We are meeting Liverpool next week to find out what they want to do."

Cisse joined Liverpool in 2004 but broke his left leg the same year.

In France's last warm-up game before the 2006 World Cup he broke his right leg.

He recovered and joined Marseille last December, helping them finish second in the French League.

Cisse's arrival would probably spell the end of Ricardo Vaz Te's stay at the Reebok.

Indeed, the Portuguese Under-21 international is already eyeing up a move home.

He said: "I get on well with Sammy but it is still early to know if he will let me go or keep me with the club. I always had the objective to play in the Portuguese league. My preferred club would be Sporting."

Meanwhile, Bolton goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen will remain at the Reebok Stadium next season after confirming he will honour the final year of his contract.

Jaaskelainen, 32, turned down a new deal with the club last week prompting speculation that Aston Villa and Sunderland would make offers for the Finland international.

But the player’s agent Peter Harrison confirmed there was no move in the offing.

He told the Daily Mail: “Jussi has decided that he is going to see out the final year of his contract and assess the situation after that.

“I’ve spoken to (manager) Sammy Lee and he is delighted.”
