Bolton Wanderers

Champions League dream still alive

EL-HADJI Diouf insists that Bolton have not given up on securing a first-ever Champions League place.

Wanderers boss Sam Allardyce last week all but conceded that a top-four finish was beyond his side.

But victory over Sheffield United and defeat for Arsenal at Liverpool has convinced the Senegal striker that Bolton can make up the ground.

And that belief will grow if Wanderers can take maximum points from their next two outings, against Wigan and Everton.

"We have seven games to go and I think that, if we win the next two, we will have a chance to catch one of the teams above us," insisted the former Liverpool marksman.

"We are not far off the Champions League now. Arsenal lost and that was good for us.

"We played in the UEFA Cup last season and now I think the people are dreaming about the Champions League. We are dreaming about it, too.

"We want to finish fourth, not fifth. The Wigan game is now the biggest of the season.

Ambitious

"If we can win that game and then beat Everton, I think we will catch one of the big teams.

"Of course, we also have a big game against Arsenal, but if they lose another game before we go there, then who knows?"

Getafe striker Dani Guiza is the latest La Liga hotshot linked with a move to the Reebok.

Manager Sam Allardyce is said to be chasing the 26-year-old, along with Portsmouth rival Harry Redknapp.

Guiza has scored nine times in 15 starts for the Madrid-based club, and said: "I like the English league a lot; it is very attractive."

The same two clubs are being linked with Nigeria-born Israel international Toto Tamuz. The 19-year-old Beitar Jerusalem player was in the Israel starting line-up against England 10 days ago.

A third La Liga hitman previously linked with Bolton is 6ft 7in Serbian Nikola Zigic.

And he showed his value last weekend by scoring a hat-trick in Racing Santander's 5-4 victory over Athletic Bilbao.

ALLARDYCE enjoyed one of his better days on Saturday. Not only did Wanderers beat Sheffield United but the `team' horse, European Dream, won at Newcastle at odds of 12-1.

The boss said: "We decided to show an interest in the horse after qualifying for Europe a couple of years ago.

"Myself and Phil Brown, along with some of the players, invested in the horse and it has done pretty well."

Champions Lge?Yer having a larf! The way Sam"s troops have recently stumbled leaves me thinking they wont even get Uefa Cup football.Spurs look like finishing 5th whilst Everton are in terrific form.Once again Bolton look like they have thrown it all away on the last lap. When you look at the average age of the midfield its not surprising.
