FORMER Lancashire captain Ken Cranston has died, aged 89.
Cranston, who was also president at Old Trafford, was called up for England in 1947 just two months after making his county debut.
He played eight Tests, captaining his country in one, and famously claimed four wickets in an over against South Africa at Headingley.
In his two seasons with Lancashire, Cranston scored 1,928 runs and took 143 wickets before he resigned in 1948 to work in his dental practice in Liverpool.
He continued to play league cricket for Neston.
Cranston was Lancashire president in 1993-4 and was also a vice-president of the club.
He had been the oldest living England Test player.
