ANDY Hayhurst rolled back the years to lead Worsley to a vital win in the Merseyside and Southport Alliance.

The former Lancashire all-rounder produced a terrific performance to skittle Caldy. Worsley declared on 185-9, then Hayhurst claimed seven wickets for just 11 runs in a devastating 12-over spell to rout the visitors for just 69.

In the Competition itself, pro Grant Rummans and Gareth Cross hit half-centuries in Leigh's Premier League triumph at Northern, despite a 6-37 return by Cross's Lancashire colleague Stephen Mullaney.

Another Lancashire man, Academy chief coach Steve Titchard, shone for Widnes as they blazed to victory over Birkenhead Park in the ECB Premier League of the CD Bramhall Trucks Cheshire County League.

Titchard made an unbeaten 65 and Aussie Cameron Park 82 in the nine-wicket romp.

But the all-round performance of the day came from another member of the Old Trafford staff, Neston's Simon Marshall claiming 4-44 with the ball against Toft then falling one run short of an unbeaten century in the eight-wicket win.

Holders Hindley St Peters are through to the Premier Division final of the Surridge Trophy in the Manchester Association on July 23 after galloping to a nine-wicket win over Bury, pro Mo Fazil leading the way with an unbeaten 44.

Defence

Denton St Lawrence cantered to a 128-run victory over Glossop as they started their defence of the Walkden Cup in the Lees Brewery Lancashire County League.

Adam Hawley made 93 and pro Jason Bennett hit a half-century for the Saints to set up a quarter-final trip to Woodhouses, whose Australian John Seeary took 6-17 to destroy Thornham. Prestwich skipper Steve Orrell slammed 95 in the comfortable win at Cheetham Hill to make it a great weekend for The Heys club, who toppled the Saints in the previous day's League clash between the sides which finished champions and runners-up last season.

Milnrow scored a satisfying derby victory over Littleborough to stop their rivals' gallop at the top of the Lake Garage Central Lancashire League.

Andy Butler hit 53 and pro Craig Phillipson 47 out of 194-6, then Lee Storey's six-wicket haul toppled the champions for just 92.

Back on top are Walsden after a four-wicket win over Crompton, who started the weekend as leaders themselves but slumped to two successive defeats.

Farnworth Social Circle had two 16-year-olds playing starring roles in their defeat of Westhoughton in the Anthony Axford Bolton League.

Luke Perry hit 51 in Circle's 214-5, with pro Wilden Cornwall smashing a century, then Scott Lees took four wickets as Westhoughton fell six runs short.

Edgworth's abandoned game allowed champions Walshaw to join them at the top of the Anthony Axford Bolton Association.

Jason Whittaker made 76 in Walshaw's easy defeat of Atherton, while Elton stay in third place after racing to 165-2 in just 28 overs at Golborne, Dexter Fitton unbeaten on 94.

Qasar Riaz hit a century in 40 balls to help Hollinwood stay on top of the Per-Fit Windows Saddleworth League, after Greenfield had set a challenging target of 268-7.
