Local cricket round-up

AFTER the recent deluge of rain, most games were played to completion in the Peak Sports Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League this weekend.

DIVISION ONE

Chapel entertained struggling Tintwistle, and thanks to 57 from Stuart Milner, set the visitors 191 é 7. In reply Chapel bowled tight and despite 39 not out from Rob Barrow could only finish on 132 é 7. Hazel Grove travelled to Compstall but could only score 161 all out. Mo Sarwar top scored with 42 and Nick Heywood chipped in with 40, but a great spell of bowling by Peter Richards yielded 6 é 52. In reply Dave Bailey made an impressive 75 not out, and despite 4 é 39 from Ian Heywood, Compstall won for the loss of 6 wickets. Hawk Green Batted first at home to Birch Vale, but could only manage to score 159 all out. Tim Johnson claimed 4 é 57, while brother Rick took 4 é 43. In a stuttering reply Hawk Green Bowlers Malcolm Strong (4 é 35) and Mike Holmes (3 é 27) could see victory on the horizon as they restricted Birch Vale to needing 49 from the last 5 overs, but Alex Pott came to the crease and smashed 35 not out off just 15 balls saw Birch home in the last over for the loss of 8 wickets. Dinting batted first away at Hayfield and rattled up 216 é 6. Matt Blood again in the runs with 65 and John Coleman weighing in with 59 not out. Pick of the bowlers was Matt Higginbottom with 5 é 66. In reply Russell Evans led the way with 72, but a classy 103 not out from George Yardley saw the home side win for the loss of 4 wickets. Hadfield travelled to Newton only to be hit by a run fiesta as Mark Barnard ended the overs on 142 not out. J. Raven also made 79, as Newton finished on 260 é 7. In reply C. Shaw bowled straight through and ended with impressive figures of 8 é 84 as Hadfield were dismissed for 166. Stockport travelled to New Horwich Park at Whaley Bridge and found conditions to their liking as Mike Beaver made a cavalier 124, ably backed by James Dunley with 78 as they set 263 é 2. In reply Charlie Holden made a well constructed 56, and Dale Jones carved 79 not out at the end, as Whaley finished on 192 é 9.

DIVISION TWO

Broadbottom took first knock at home to Buxworth and set 204 all out. S. Dodd top scored with 95. In reply Adam Brayne made 45 not out, but 4 é 27 from J. Rowbottom and 3 é 33 from A. Demidh saw Buggy all out for 129. Woodley travelled to inform Dove Holes, and were soon all out for just 51. Matt Johnson taking 5 é 27, and Rob Jones claiming 5 é 3 doing the damage for Dove. In reply Rob Jones made 31 not out as Dove Holes won for the loss of 3 wickets. Mellor travelled to Hollingworth and made a creditable 166 é 9. Ian Morris the best bowler taking 4 é 44. In reply Steve Harrison took 5 é 70 as the home team were all out for 140. Charlesworth batted first away at New Mills and had 73 from D. Gilham to thank as the visitors totalled 183 é 9. In a lack lustre reply New Mills could only finish on 165 é 7. High Lane travelled to Old Glossop but were soon all out for 109. Ravi Patel made 40 with the bat whilst Lennie Alsop took 5 é 22 backed by Declan Hall with 4 é 44. The total allowed A. Bellieu to probe away at the batsmen as he took 6 é 30 and Chris Hanson 4 é 29 as Old Glossop were all out for just 59. The game between Romiley and Mottram was abandoned due to a water logged pitch.

DIVISION THREE

Birch Vale entertained Hawk Green, but found Shane Hallas in fine form as he made 100, Andrew Bickley made 59, Lee Hallas 47 and a hard hit 31 not out by Baz Everett saw Green finish on 283 é 8. In reply J. Leyland made 34 but 3 é 29 from Sam Messiah and 3 é 30 from Jason Ward saw Birch all out for 178. Dinting batted first at home to Hayfield but could only manage 83 all out as J. Adamson took 5 é 18. In reply Shane Furness made 38 as Hayfield limped home for the loss of 7 wickets. Mottram had first use of the pitch at home to Compstall making 129 all out. M. Marsden top scoring with 42 whilst James Stanton claimed 4 é 36. In reply Jonathan Lindley made 31 not out as Compstall made it home for the loss of 7 wickets. Stockport entertained Whaley Bridge and posted 194 é 9. R. Barber the pick of the batsmen making 74, while Colin Wild took 4 é 40 with the ball. In reply A. Porter took 4 é 27 as Whaley were all out for just 68. Old Glossop batted first away at Tintwistle, but could only make 113 é 9. 3 wickets each for Gary Doodson, Stuart Dodd and Dave Thornhill. In reply N. Radford made 39 and Damian Weatherhead 46 not out as the hosts won by 9 wickets. The game between Hadfield and Newton was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch.

DIVISION FOUR

Broadbottom batted first away at Buxworth and despite a superb 85 from J. Bardsley could only set 174 é 7. Chris Ripley was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 é 39. In reply Marcus Forte made 37 and Aaron Benstead 34 and despite 5 é 47 from S. Croft Buxworth won off the last ball for the loss of 8 wickets. Charlesworth took first knock at home to New Mills but found the effervescent Shaun Coverley in fine form as he took 6 é 29 to end the Charlesworth innings on 78 all out. New Mills confidently knocked the runs off for the loss of 6 wickets. Romiley Travelled to Hazel Grove but were soon all out for 111 as Dave Jones took 7 é 29. In reply N. Fitton took 4 é 44, but 37 not out from M. Holtom saw Grove home for the loss of 8 wickets. In a low scoring affair at Mellor, Hollingworth were all out for 107. N. Glynn taking 5 é 17, while C. Leech made a steady 42. In reply C. Leech took 5 é 14 as Mellor were skittled for 53. Dove Holes travelled to Woodley and set a challenging 192 é 3. D. Jones making 78 not out and Mark Vernon 75. In reply D. Baker made 51, but 5 é 43 from P Buckley saw Woodley all out for 139. The match between High Lane and Chapel-en-le-Frith was abandoned due to a water logged pitch.
