IKRAM-ul-Haq Malik was denied a 10-wicket haul by Aaron Scott as Newton-le-Willows chalked up a one-wicket win over newcomers Ainsdale in the Littlewoods Gaming Liverpool Competition, writes RON GIRVIN.

Malik claimed the first nine wickets to fall as Ainsdale were toppled for 107, and finished with 9-32 off 18 overs,

To complete his contribution, Malik was in at the end with Danny Wakefield after Newton had slumped to 93-9.

Victor Mpitsang marked his debut for Wigan with 4-48 before neighbours Highfield declared on 150-9. But the Wigan side had to hang on at 92-8.
