Local cricket: Bolton League

WESTHOUGHTON, the Warburtons Bolton League leaders, can pile the pressure on defending champions Walkden by hitting double top this weekend.

They go into the last six matches of the season with a six-point lead, which they can extend with fixtures against two of the bottom three clubs.

Westhoughton, fired by a magnificent season from their West Indian pro Antonio Mayers, go to Astley Bridge tomorrow and are at home to Bradshaw on Sunday.

Walkden face a tougher job at Egerton, where opener Gary Garner is in stunning form, before an easier home test against out-of-form Kearsley on Sunday.

Third-placed Greenmount are hanging in on the title race 14 points behind Walkden but have a tough trip to Eagley, who are fourth, tomorrow.

Tomorrow: Walkden v Egerton, Little Lever v Farnworth SC, Eagley v Greenmount, Bradshaw v Heaton, Farnworth v Kearsley, Horwich v Tonge, Astley Bridge v Westhoughton.

Sunday: Westhoughton v Bradshaw, Tonge v Eagley, Astley Bridge v Farnworth, Farnworth SC v Heaton, Egerton v Horwich, Greenmount v Little Lever, Kearsley v Walkden.
