Local cricket: Saddleworth League

AFTER their Saddleworth League title ambitions were wiped out by the disciplinary committee, Greenfield's best hope of silverware rests with the Tanner Cup.

Still smarting from their 83 point penalty for fielding an ineligible player, Greenfield entertain Hollinwood on Sunday looking for a place in the final.

The Ladhill Lane side hasn't won the competition since 1936 while Hollinwood, whose overseas amateur Basit Butt has returned home, have never lifted the trophy.

Bamford Fieldhouse, still in with a chance of the double and winners in 1999, visit Micklehurst.

Heyside's Mel Austin, the league's leading wicket taker, has been fined '50 for dissent during a recent match.

Tomorrow: Droylsden v Bamford F, Friarmere v Uppermill, Greenfield v Moorside, Hollinwood v Heyside, Micklehurst v Austerlands, Stayley v Shaw. Sunday - Tanner Cup semi-finals: Greenfield v Hollinwood, Micklehurst v Bamford Fieldhouse.x
