Keedy: I'll fight back

Gary Keedy has allayed fears his career may be over after breaking his collarbone.

The Lancashire spinner will find out on Tuesday the full extent of the injury to his right clavicle - but is facing several months out of action.

Keedy suffered the horrific injury when diving to stop a boundary during last week's pre-season friendly against Durham at Old Trafford - and had surgery on Friday when a plate was fitted to help mend the break.

"They have told me it won't be a quick fix - but we can't put a time frame on it yet," said 35-year-old Keedy, who is still in a lot of discomfort.

"They have put a plate and screws in it and at least it is a clean break - there are no ligaments involved or a dislocation which would have made it more complicated and taken longer to come back.

"Some people have mentioned it could be the end of my career - but it has not entered my mind. I will be back. I am fit and strong and a good healer.

"The feeling I am getting from the medical guys is pretty positive because they seem to have been able to put it back together - it is just a case of time healing it.

Serious

"I knew I had done something serious because my body just shut down.

"At first I thought I had dislocated it but when I got back to the dressing room I knew it was something more serious.

"I have never been in pain like it. Like all cricketers - I have had broken hands and pulled muscles - but as far as impact injuries go, this is by far the worse."

And left-arm spinner Keedy - who is studying to be a physiotherapist - has defended his fielding that caused the injury.

"I read that somebody said I was daft diving to save runs in a pre-season friendly - but we are preparing to play competitive games and that is what you do in matches," said Keedy. "I didn't do anything wrong - it was just one of those things.

"It is frustrating because last season I played in every game and I wanted to do the same this year, but now that is out of the window. It isn't nice watching all the lads train while I am sat in the stands not able to do anything."
