GLEN Chapple will captain Lancashire again next season.
The 35-year-old was handed the job 12 months ago following Stuart Law's departure, and guided the club to the semi-finals of the Friends Provident Trophy, the quarter-finals of the Twenty20 Cup and fourth in the County Championship.
He also led from the front, being named Lancashire's Championship Player of the Year despite missing five matches with a foot injury.
Chapple said: “It’s an honour to be asked to continue as captain of Lancashire for next season.
"Captaincy certainly comes with extra responsibilities, but I believe I’ve shown it’s a role I feel confident in performing.
"I received great support from head coach Peter Moores and my fellow team mates this year, and I look forward to leading the squad onto greater achievements next season.”
Cricket director Mike Watkinson added: “Glen optimises the values and attributes we look for in all players who represent Lancashire. In his first season as captain, Glen’s contribution to the team and individuals was outstanding.
"Not only is he highly respected by this team mates and the coaching staff, but his on field performances continue to inspire those around him – making him the natural choice for the captaincy.”
Head coach Peter Moores said: “It’s great news that Glen has accepted the captaincy for next season. Over the past year we have built a strong relationship and share the same vision for the club, and I look forward to working with Glen next season in his role as captain.”

On the matter of the ECB Performance Programme: far from wringing hands at the omission of any serving Lancashire players (as Chris Ostick appears to have done), the authorities at O.T. should be asking serious questions about the actual strength of the current squad. Local pride is no substitute for hard-headed appraisal. One or two might in future be knocking on the international door, but no-one (including Sajid Mahmood) made a compelling case in the season just ended.
