Local cricket: Liverpool Competition

ST HELENS may have won the rugby league final, but Wigan took the spoils when the towns clashed in a Littlewoods Gaming Liverpool Competition division one game.

St Helens were bowled out for 165, but Wigan raced to a nine-wicket win in just 43.1 overs thanks to an unbroken second wicket stand between Mike Parlane (75) and Matthew Taylor (64).

Worsley have really put last season's bad run behind them. They declared on 231-7 at Haydock, and then bowled the home side out for just 86, Michael Gould taking 5-. Worsley had been in trouble at 41-5 but a century from Danny McKeown and an undefeated 74 from Dave McQuade - they had a 119 stand - took the visitors to victory.

Leigh moved into second spot behind shock leaders Southport in the ECB Premier League with a five-wicket home win over Lytham who were bowled out for 109, Paul Vallance taking 6-31.
