Local cricket round up

BOWDON are back on top of the ECB Cheshire County Premier League with just two weeks of the season remaining.

Bowdon beat Widnes by six wickets with Michael Bryan-Jones (53no), Lancashire staff man Gareth Cross (47) and Carl Hey (46) all in the runs.

Nantwich, missing former New Zealand Test all rounder Lou Vincent, lost to Neston. Oulton Park are now joint second with Nantwich after their winning draw against Alderley Edge.

Oulton skipper Nathan Dumelow scored a league high 171, coming in at 10-3 and clocking up a fourth wicket partnership of 212 with the ever-improving Rick Moore (74).

Macclesfield look set for the drop after defeat at Didsbury. In sharp contrast, Didsbury are now undefeated in 11 of their 12 games since June 11 after losing seven of their first eight outings.

In the Central Lancashire League, Monton & Weaste stole a march at the top of the table after theirs was the only game played on Sunday. They managed to beat Ashton by 10 wickets in double quick time to take pole position in the title race.

This Friday, meanwhile, sees the JW Lees inter-league colts final between the Central Lancashire League and the  Bolton League.

Meanwhile, Haslingden Cricket Club are closing in on their 13th Lancashire Cricket League championship title.

Ian Austin's former club are 20 points clear of reigning champions Accrington, who are second but have played a game more and have only three fixtures remaining.

IHaslingden could increase their lead by winning their game in hand on Saturday at Colne.

And victory there would set them up to claim the championship with a win at Nelson the following day.

Haslingden's success has been built on the back of some inspired batting with skipper Graham Knowles leading the way with 909 runs in 22 games.

Professional Phil Hayes (764 runs) and Steve Dearden (735) have also made several big knocks for the Rossendale club.

In the Saddleworth League, Zeeshan Khan became the first player to reach 1000 runs in the season for the second consecutive year.

His 113 for Uppermill, alongside Andy McVeigh's 104no, did for Hollinwood.

In the Bolton Association, Elton's Graham Marston claimed hugely impressive figures of 9-39 in their win over Golborne, and he caught the remaining batsmen out for good measure.
