The tourists trail 4-0 in the seven-match series and face India again at the Barabati Stadium in tomorrow's day-night encounter desperate to end their run of defeats.
Normally the England team would have trained today to acclimatise them to the stadium and conditions but instead they decided to hold a team meeting at their hotel in Bhubaneshwar.
"We had a meeting this morning and we thought it would be better to talk about and identify areas that have not gone quite right," explained Middlesex batsman Owais Shah.
"I think the guys thought we would get more out of discussing particular aspects of where we've gone wrong and try and put them right.
"Everyone feels they are hitting the ball okay and the bowlers feel alright - you're not going to forget how to play your shots overnight just because you don't practice for one day."
Today's decision followed a management meeting involving coach Peter Moores, captain Kevin Pietersen, senior players Paul Collingwood and Andrew Flintoff and the backroom staff yesterday at the hotel.
They decided a change of routine today will be better for the squad as they desperately try to find a winning formula and end India's run of successive wins.
Shah said: "Sport at this level is more mental than anything you do in the field so we feel if we can make the mental adjustments it should put us in a better frame of mind to go and perform tomorrow.
"We need to get hundreds. Whoever gets in on the day has to be the man to kick on."
Shah has also confirmed he will leave England's squad immediately after the final one-day international in Delhi on December 2, to help Middlesex's Champions League campaign providing he is not needed for the three-day warm up match in Baroda starting on December 5.
The Baroda match is England's only opportunity to assess their side in competitive conditions before the start of the Test series in Ahmedabad on December 11.
"I want to play Test cricket, that is my first aim, and if I am not involved in that three-day game then there is an option for me to go rather than carry drinks," said Shah.
"That is the only scenario where I would go and play in the Champions League but if I'm selected for the three-day game I will play in that and try and put my name in the hat for the Test match."
England have chosen not to name a replacement in the squad for left-arm seamer Ryan Sidebottom, who has failed to recover from a right side strain.
Sidebottom has remained with the England Performance Programme squad in Bangalore and if the one-day squad require a replacement they will look at other players from Bangalore. Tweet

I am just watching Collingwood make an absolute shambles of a decent start, no doubt he will explode shortly after I hit the submit button, but he looks out of form, Shah looked good playing Pool yesterday, Andy Flower has done a good job with his cueing action. Surely it would have been better to get the dvds out and look at the back swings of the Indians as they smash our bowlers to all parts with a straight bat, next they will be saying Harmison is short of fitness etc.
