The Old Trafford gloveman shook off the jet-lag to claim 4-41 with his 10 overs of medium pacers for St Kilda in their opening game in the Victoria Premier League, while Smith, who has joined him at the Melbourne-based club, took 2-20 from eight overs.
They both failed with the bat, however, with former Clifton player Cross making a duck and Chorley’s Smith just two in the defeat to Ringwood.
Former Lancashire captain Mark Chilton was also in the wickets in the same league, claiming 1-27 from his 10 overs in Melbourne University’s victory over North Melbourne.
