The 33-year-old Australian batsman admits his chances of making the Aussie Test and one-day squads this summer are slim, and that means Hodge could well play a full season at Old Trafford.
Hodge, who will complete the second year of a two-year deal with the Red Rose county this summer, is still in the Australian Twenty20 side.
But his last one-day international was against India in the seven-match series on the sub-continent back in October, and he hasn't played a Test for over two years.
And that despite being in red-hot form. He hit a magnificent 286 for his Aussie side Victoria against Queensland in a four-day Pura Cup game at the end of last year.
Since then he has helped his state to a third straight domestic Twenty20 title, smashed an unbeaten 119 against Queensland to put the Bushrangers on the verge of the one-day Ford Ranger Cup final and only yesterday matched that score in a top-of-the-table clash against New South Wales in Sydney in the Pura Cup, a knock which saw him pass 10,000 first-class career runs.
One-day internationals
The Aussies are due to play three Tests and five one-day internationals during a tour to the West Indies from May to July and then host Bangladesh for a three-match one-day series in August and September. But Hodge, who will be spending his fourth consecutive season with Lancashire, is not expecting to be involved.
"It is certainly looking that way at the moment," he said. "I don't seem to be in the thoughts of the Australian selectors on a consistent basis.
"But I am really looking forward to heading back to Lancashire, it should be really good. Personally, I've been getting some good runs. Things are going well,"
Hodge left Lancashire's challenge for the Championship early last season because he was in action in the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa.
Although he was thousands of miles away from the Oval, he had a hotline to the Lancashire dressing room during the nail-biting final match of the campaign against Surrey which saw the Red Rose county fall 25 runs short of the title.
"That was incredible. I was texting Mike Watkinson right through the day, and it was an amazing effort," he said. "Hopefully, we can use it to push on next season."
