Simmons elected to ECB post

LANCASHIRE chairman Jack Simmons has been elected as the ECB’s new Chairman of Cricket.

Simmons was elected to the post following a ballot of the 18 First Class Counties and MCC. In the ballot which was conducted by the Electoral Reform Society, Simmons received twelve votes and the Durham Chairman, Clive Leach, seven votes.

Simmons succeeds Dennis Amiss in the post following his recent election as ECB Deputy Chairman.

In his 21-year playing career, Simmons played 450 First Class matches for Lancashire and Tasmania scoring more than 9,000 runs and taking 1033 wickets.

He captained Tasmania for six seasons leading the Australian side into the Sheffield Shield competition in 1977-78 and was named a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1985.  He has been Chairman of Lancashire since 1998.
