Khan a star on the box

AMIR Khan will make his professional debut against London's David Bailey this month in a fight which will kick off an exciting new era for British boxing.

Khan's July 16 clash with Bailey in Bolton will herald the long-term return of the sport to terrestrial television.

Promoter Frank Warren has revealed that he has struck an exclusive two-year deal with ITV, which will also see stars like Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe fighting in prime-time slots.

Said Warren: "I feel the sport can now go from strength to strength, and with so many new stars coming through this is going to be a long-term plan.

"Just imagine what kind of figures exciting fighters like Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe will pull in."

ITV will broadcast a minimum of 20 shows over the next two years.

I cant see how fighting a photographer in is 60's will be a good introduction but then again im sure they can come to some arrangement with him to not try his best much like the farce that happened when candelan threw the fight a few weeks ago. Khan is being hyped up so much and i feel sorry for him because he isnt ready for proffesional boxing as anyone who has seen him fight since the olympics knows he's still not the finished article as far as amateur boxing goes. In the pro ranks he doesnt have a head guard to protect him against the punches and with his guard being non existent he will take too many punches when he's faced with an oppenant that isnt being paid not to throw them
