Ricky Hatton: Believe me, I've not retired

I'd like to clarify the position with regards my boxing career once again.

As usual, one sentence out of many can take a conversation out of context, and until you hear it officially from the horse's mouth, I am not retired!

I have renewed my licence and if I wake up one day and the urge is there, you’ll be the first to know.

The new boxing season is underway and for Hatton Promotions it will start at Bury Castle Leisure Centre when Scott Quigg takes on Argentina’s Santiago Allione for the vacant WBA International Super Bantamweight title.

It’s a path I travelled and I gained valuable experience fighting South American opponents, which considering Scott is ranked number three in Europe, can only be to his advantage.

Like busses, these things come along two at a time, and the following week Steven Foster Jr fights Levan Kirakosyan for the European Super Featherweight title at Bolton's Reebok stadium.

Steven is a former WBU World Champion in his own right, and that’s going to be a barn stormer.

Kirakosyan needs no introduction to British boxing fans, the last time he was over here he comprehensively beat Stoke’s Scott Lawton.

Another fight to look out for in the coming months is Andy Morris v Anthony Crolla for the vacant English Super Feather weight Title.

I promote both fighters and I’d hoped to promote this fight. I was able to agree terms very easily with Andy Morris but, unfortunately, for reasons known only to him and those advising him, not with Anthony Crolla and that has now gone out to purse bids.

The fight will make for a great Manchester derby and the winner is bound to be knocking on the door of a British title fight against Gary Sykes, who defeated Andy in what must have been one of the fights of last season, with many neutrals thinking Andy had done enough to win.

This week I’m down in London doing a couple of television shows and I hope to bump into David Haye and Audley Harrisson, who will fight at the MEN Arena in November.

I know both Audley and David very well, so I wouldn’t want to be drawn on who the winner might be as whenever I pick a winner I usually get it wrong.

But, it’s got to be good for British boxing that two British Heavyweights are fighting for the World title, just like Lewis and Bruno did, and in Manchester too!

On September 17, I will be at the De Vera Whites Hotel in Bolton, together with my mates Amir Kahn, and Paddy McGuinness for a grand charity gala dinner to raise funds for the Variety club of Great Britain and Gloves ABC - Amir’s
amateur club in Bolton.

It has taken a while, but I am now embracing the 21st century and you can now follow me on Twitter at Hattonboxing, where I have regular updates.

Retire Ricky. We know the sort of limelight you had is hard to give up but very few people want to see you in the ring again. Thats because they care about what you were, what you are and what you could end up being. Keeping people guessing whether you will or will not come back isn't exactly a great PR exercise either. Just leave it.

Dude........Give it up now! One day its- "You've probably seen the last of Ricky Hatton" the next day its- "Believe me, I've not retired".....I really don't think anybody cares either way...YOU NEED TO FIND A HOBBY OR SOMETHING! You've been lucky enough to make money, now spend it and let the next generation of fighters have the spotlight..

It must be very difficult for any sportsperson, be it man or woman to give up the limelight and adulation, but a time comes in every sports person's life to consider retirement? bow out gracefully, thank god that you have had a good innings and realise that time has taken it's toll on your body. Retire whilst you still have the ability to make a choice, otherwise it will not be long before you are forced to retire, by a fitter and younger fighter who has the hunger and desire for success. Move over and give the new generation the chance that they crave for. You remember what it was like to crave success. concentrate on training young and upcoming fighters.Good luck.
