The Hitman, who has been out of action since his brutal knockout at the hands of Manny Pacquiao last May, says he'd love to put the record straight against Mayweather, who he lost to in 2007.
Hatton insists 'Money' has never given him the respect he deserves since their epic battle at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
And if anything could tempt the 31-year-old into a comeback, it would be the chance to lock horns with Mayweather for a second time.
"It would have to be a good fight to come back," said the former two-weight world champion. "I've always been a scrapper, a fighter. If there was one fight to come back for it would be Mayweather.
"He's the one. Even after he beat me I thought he still showed me no respect. I'd like another pop at him if I had my choice."
MEN Sport columnist Hatton is still to officially announce his retirement, but after 12 months out of the ring and with a burgeoning promotions career, is not expected to return.
Not even the promise of mega-money fights with Juan-Manuel Marquez and Erik Morales have been enough to convince him to pull his gloves on again - and he admits he no longer has the urge to fight.
"I'm enjoying what I'm doing and I don't have a desire to come back at the minute," he admitted.
"That doesn't mean I won't in a few months time. I won't make a comeback until I've got the bit between my teeth and I'm 100 percent again."
On Mayweather, he added: "I'm not going to fight the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world unless I've got the hunger to do it.
"I'm not going to fight him just for the sake of it. Floyd retired briefly and wouldn't have come back until he had the desire to do it. Until that time it could be Mayweather, Pacquiao - it could be anyone, but until the desire comes back it's not really an issue.
"I'm still undecided about my future. I started out with my good friends Anthony Farnell and Michael Gomez.
"It was always us three flying the flag in Manchester. When you think how long Michael and Anthony have been retired, I've outlasted them all and that's quite an achievement."
Do you think Hatton would stand a chance against Mayweather? Have your say.

Ricky would get smashed to pieces by amir Kahn, and any of the light welter champs of the moment, let alone one of the greatest fighters of all time.
foget it Ricky. you were a good un, but not a great
You must be punch drunk if you think that Floyd showed you no respect after the fight. If anything, he overpraised your performance. You should be greatful that he shown you and your fans respect by not knocking you out 3 or 4 rounds earlier which he easily could have, such was the obvious gulf in class. If you do make an ill advised comeback and Money grants you a rematch (not sure why he would, there's nothing in it for him), then I think he'd take you apart quicker than the Pacman did.
Hatton lost my respect with his treatment of Billy Graham. The man is dellusional. The only reason Mnayweather would take this fight would be for the easy nights work.

SERIOUSLY, has Hatton gone crazy? He won't even have a chance against Marquez let alone devastating fighter in Pacquiao and a fit and speedy Mayweather. If any fan thinks that Hatton has a chance against this too then you might as well join Ricky check in at the nearest asylum for mental evaluation. Ricky is a poster child for a "bad example" fighter. The guy is obese, undisciplined, and very stubborn to admit that he's done! Do you think shedding off those 50-60lbs of FAT in 3-4 (or more) can instantly make him a championship caliber fighter? He'll tire off after 2 rounds and call it quits. In the meantime, his diminishing loyal fans will get suckered into paying lots of money flying to the US and just end up experiencing the same frustrating results. If he can't beat Mayweather and Pacquiao in his "prime", do you think he'll have a better chance doing it now? Wake up and smell the coffee Ricky. You are a "B" fighter at best in your PRIME. Face it, you are DONE! I know it's tough for boxers to retire but It's time to let go.... Spend time with your family while you physicall still can!
CORRECTION: Manny will pick Money apart!
Surely Hatton isn`t serious ?, last time out against Mayweather he was outclassed and out boxed, and had the Gall to blame the Ref for interfering, who was one of the most respected in the game.
It is time to move on, a rematch would be a farce and would do nothing to improve the tarnished image of professional Boxing or Hattons for that matter.
LOL
Stop it Ricky, you are embarassing yourself.
The difference between Floydd's ''brief retirement'' and Ricky's is that Floydd didn't become a cruiserweight in the interim. Ricky should either keep quiet or make the comeback. Though, he'll never be a headliner again.
Ever thought of coming back as a heavyweight Rick.
