There are some massive fights out there in the welterweight division - the kind that could set Magic up for life. He's already had his name thrown into the mix with Floyd Mayweather Jnr this year, then there's the likes of Shane Moseley and Miguel Cotto - I'm sure he'd love to be mentioned alongside such greats.
But before he sets off to conquer the world, he might find there are a couple of faces closer to home who'd like to put him through his paces.
In Michael Jennings and Craig Watson, Matthew has two high-class opponents who would both fancy themselves as Manchester's welterweight king ahead of the new European champion.
Watson defeated him on points when they fought for the Commonwealth title in 2008, while Jennings has shown his calibre, taking on Cotto last year.
Battle
Whatever your opinion of who is the top dog in Manchester, it sets up a mouth-watering three-way battle that could keep the European title in the city for a long time.
As a promoter, Ricky will see the potential in a rivalry that would capture the attention of every Manchester boxing fan.
It is extremely rare for one city to house three high grade fighters all in the same division.
I'm sure Matthew would love to settle the score with Watson while Jennings, who at one time looked like a possible opponent for Ricky, would relish a shot at the European title having seen his hopes of becoming world champion ended by Cotto.
Matthew, though, will have his sights on world crowns himself.
There is that re-match with Lovemore N'Dou for the IBO title - and given the Hattons' connections with HBO and Golden Boy he might see even bigger contests coming his way.
As Ricky said on Friday, Matthew's career has been a slow-burning one.
He's only fought two less fights than his older brother and missed out on the education you get from a full amateur career.
He's had to learn the hard way, but he's hitting the right age to make his impact.
A first major title at 28 means he's still got plenty of time to go in search of the world title he's desperate for.
He's at the peak of his career and the European title moves him right up the rankings for some major fights.
From a Manchester perspective, however, I'd love to see him settle some scores with Watson and Jennings before taking on the world. Tweet

We would all love to see that Joe, but as you know more than any with Amir swerving John Murray, it doesn't always work like that nowadays. What a shame, as we could have our own little 'league' right here in Manchester and not have to travel.
I hope mathew shows a bit more respect to his opponent next time out. Last time against N'Dou whilst sitting right next to him being interviewed on the canvass he was a bit disrespectful, I think he lost a few potential fans that night, Manchester people don't like to see that.
Have a word Ricky.
No offence intended Joe, but I find talk of Matthew Hatton being a world champion quite embarrassing. Must also agree, Matthew was very disrespectful after the N'Dou fight.
Hats off to Mattie Hatton for taking the EBU belt - pretty decent belt really and one that I thought was above him if I am honest. If there is any criticism it was that if was another faded great - Branco aint the Branco well used to know nor was Bami, Ndou or Tackie.
I would like to see him fight the live local fighters - maybe Jennings or Watson as stated above but what about Brook or local lad Mark Thompson. Plenty of fights out there without fishing for shot men.
But credit where credit is due - congratulations Mattie.
