The Manchester heavyweight is tipped to be a future world title contender - but his second-round knockout of an out-of-shape Aleksandrs Selezens on Saturday did little to help his development as a fighter or acquire him many new fans.
He at least became the first man to stop the Latvian, whose performance was so rank that it is hard to believe he had managed to escape the same fate in his previous 39 clashes.
Fury himself admitted it was a disappointing spectacle, but having overcome back injuries just to make it into the ring, he has promised much improvement when he takes on John McDermott for the English title in September.
The 21-year-old is eager to prove that the hype surrounding him is well justified and sees McDermott as the first obstacle on his way to British supremacy.
"For my next fight I will be in 100 per cent better condition," he said. "My back was bad and I promise to be a lot better.
"It has put me out of two fights already and this was nearly the third. I trapped a nerve in my back and had severe internal bruising in the lumbar muscle.
Fans
"I wasn't supposed to box, but a lot of people came and a lot of people paid money, so I wasn't going to let my fans down.
"It's a learning curve. He was no threat, but I stopped him and no one else could. I got him out of there so it is another one for the record.
"I knew I wasn't in great shape. But I'm glad I made it because of my bad back. I'm seven and 0. Seven knockouts so bring them on.
"Line them up and I'll knock them down."
McDermott is the next man Fury intends to knock down - and he insists the English champion would be a fool to read too much into the Selezens fight.
"After he's fought me he's never going to want to fight again because I am going to absolutely destroy him," he said. "This was a little stupid thing.
"He was just trying to hold me and get close and it spoils it for everyone who turned up. Tyson is going to stop people like that all day.
"A fat feller like McMuffin will think he can do the same thing. He will watch that and get confidence thinking he can get in close, but that was nothing really. McMuffin will get it.
"The rest of you guys out there, you are all getting it. That's a promise from Tyson Fury. All these heavyweights are going to get it, there's only going to be one man standing and that's Tyson Fury."

This lad he beat had a 12 - 0 record to date and in Tysons second fight he beat the german lad Marcel Zeller who had a 21 - 3 record with 20 ko's!
He has stopped everyone in front of him so far and although it might not look as explosive as the original tysons career, he is doing exactly the same and destroying everything put in front of him. The only difference is that Tyson is stopping people with sickening body shots that to the untrained eye may not look that painful, but beleive me they would put almost any man down.
And OK, Tyson is a bit of a rough diamond and has developed a few sloppy habits since he's gone pro but they can be easily rectified in the right hands.
Finally although he acts the part that he thinks the public want to see from a potential Heaveyweight Champion of the World, he is still a kid and his confidence is growing - so give the kid a break and support him, he's a good lad.

As you know Jordy, Tyson is a good boxer and he can box and move quite nimble for a giant of a man, he's from tough stock and is a natural fighter when he needs to be. He is also one of the nicest most polite, humble young men you could wish to meet, regardless of his tv interview image (thats not the real Tyson).

This sloppy but manipulative article proves that you'll never please all of the people all of the time. Take a leaf out of the Klitschos' books and be your own man and take your time.

Would you like to enlighten us with your boxing knowledge? You probably think being a good boxer is about banging people out with big daft haymaking pub punches - you're clueless mate!!!

If you think tyson is a proper contender to haye or the klitchko brothers, you know nothing about boxing, ordinary harrison would take fury, and thats saying something.

As for the boxing, no-one on here has said he is ready for it right now? Or even mentioned Haye or Klitchko brothers - i think you've just thrown that in out of embarrassment for your earlier comments. What appears to be the general consensus of the knowledgable boxing fans (PatBlackFlash, Jordy, Manc in Greece, etc) who support the hometown lads is that he has potential and great ability and is still growing and learning.
You tell me whats so bad about tyson then mate? As you obviously know more about boxing than everyone else.
As for Harrison - Give over!

A good fight would be fury against martin rogan,i would put my house on a rogan stoppage.
Hands of Stone, Southside (29/07/2009 at 20:53)
I'd say he has more boxing ability than most out there at the moment even, his hands are lightening and he throws shots and combo's from all angles that you just dont usually see at this weight and he is pretty mobile for a big man.
As for Rogan, he is not a boxer fella? He is a brawler and has no real boxing ability at all. However saying that, I think he might wel beat Tyson at the moment, but that doesn't make him a better boxer or a better long term prospect, NO WAY!
PS: Go back and look at his boxing ability in the ABA final at York Hall last year when he beat Campbell 19-1 and look at him fegining the jab and clipping him with a left hook instead, great ability.
