JOE Calzaghe is just the tiniest bit envious of Ricky Hatton.

Not that he would swap lives or careers with the Hitman - it's just that he wishes he had the same chances to tangle with the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.

The 36-year-old Welsh ring superstar is expected to call an end to his career in the New Year, unbeaten after 11 years as a world champion.

Calzaghe was in Hatton's native Manchester on Wednesday to meet fans and sign copies of his DVD "Joe Calzaghe - My Life Story" at HMV on Market Street.

But he admits, after beating everyone put in front of him at 12 stone and then switching up to light-heavy to defeat Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Junior, that he casts the occasional longing look at the fights available to Hatton.

The Hitman is now expected to press for a second crack at the world pound-for-pound title, with a fight against Filipino ace Manny Pacquiao.

Lucky

Hatton's first bid ended in defeat by Floyd Mayweather Junior a year ago.

"Ricky is lucky to be in that weight division," said Calzaghe, who says he will only make a final decision on his career after a peaceful Christmas and New Year with his family.

"There are a lot of big names out there - Ricky fought Mayweather, who also took on Oscar de la Hoya, and Oscar fought Pacquiao on Saturday.

"Those are all mega-fights. I haven't got the luxury of fighting the pound-for-pound best, but the likes of Hopkins, Mikkel Kessler and Jones - although he wasn't at his best when I fought him - are pretty decent fights.

"I was a little unlucky to be at the back end of that era in British boxing that produced Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank and Steve Collins, so it was a bit of a struggle for a while.

"People said for a long time that I didn't beat anyone, but if they look at my career in those early years I actually beat six former world champions."

Calzaghe is already being called out by IBF light-heavy champ Chad Dawson and there have also been calls for a rematch with Hopkins after Calzaghe's split decision win in April.

"There are still challenges for me, but I have to look at whether a fight will enhance my legacy, whether the risk is worth it, and whether I can get motivated, " he added.
