Loreto claim British Colleges title

Loreto College romped to the first Under-19s British Colleges Premier National Title.

The Hulme-based outfit beat SEEVIC (Essex) 82-72 in the final in Birmingham after seeing off HCCA (Hackney) 105-83 in the semi-final.

The team, made up of Manchester Magic's successful under-18 players, held strong in the final after a convincing win in the semis.

"Winning the championship gave a big boost to the Loreto/Magic Basketball Academy, which is attracting much talent for entry in September 2011," said a Magic spokesman.

Big man Jack Crook ran amok in the win over Hackney, scoring an incredible 44 points.

Josh McGinn and Joe Kilpatrick top-scored in the final with 14 apiece, while guard Tom Devitt took the MVP award.

The team is led by Paul Middleton, who also coaches the Magic Under-18 team. He is assisted in both roles by Garry Latham.
