MANCHESTER Magic may have made a perfect start to the 2009-10 season, but coach Jeff Jones hasn't finished tweaking his roster.

Eight straight wins have put his team into the quarter-finals of the National Trophy and Cup and seen them open their Division One account with maximum points from their opening two league fixtures.

Jones has bedded in young new arrivals Federico Fridel (Switzerland), James Hagan (Ireland) and Yann Fasbender (Luxembourg), as well as adding English ace David Watts from Reading.

But the arrival of more new faces is imminent.

Jones is hoping to secure another foreigner in the shape of Brazilian-Italian forward Caio Caesar Avona. He started the season with BBL Cheshire Jets and will add size to the Magic ranks if paperwork can be cleared.

Talent

The coach is also checking out a Czech guard. But he is not just relying on overseas talent.

Young England guard Josh Houghton is set for a quick return to the club after deciding against staying on at the much-lauded Gran Canaria Academy.

And against Stockport on Sunday Jones promoted junior guard Josh McGinn to first-team action to promising effect.

Liam Johnson will continue to provide back-up to the starting guards after his most effective showing of the season in the hard-fought away league win at Tees Valley at the weekend.

Jones is also waiting to see if experienced centre Steve Boonham returns to the fold after taking a break and if promising young forward Lee Goldsborough can play at Division One level without scuppering his chances of playing in the US college leagues in the future.

Magic will travel to Durham Wildcats as favourites to win a place in the Cup semis on Nov 21, though their hosts are top of currently Division Two.

They entertain Leicester in the Trophy quarter-finals on January 10.

Manchester's women, the Mystics, have a tough trip to holders Sheffield in the quarter-finals of the National Cup after beating local rivals Stockport Lapwings 52-43.
