JEFF Jones has a Christmas message to the city’s sporting public: “Come and join the party.”

His Manchester Magic basketball side are riding the crest of a silverware wave that has seen them win the EBL title, National Cup (twice) and the Play-offs in the last couple of seasons.

But the club’s on-court success hasn’t been matched by a similar surge in attendances at the Amaechi Centre.

Jones thinks potential spectators are missing out on some of the best sporting action in town – and a cheap night out!

Now, with a special ‘two for the price of one’ offer for this weekend’s home double-header against Coventry tonight and Brixton tomorrow, Jones is banging the Magic drum.

“We would love to see the Centre full to the brim,” said Jones, who has been involved with the game in the city for over two decades.

“We have got some fantastic talent on show and we play good, entertaining basketball.

“We have had some great successes in the last few years and we would love more people to come and be a part of it.”

Magic face a strengthened Coventry on Saturday night and Jones has warned his men against complacency, while Sunday's Cup semi-final is an intriguing clash against Third Division opponents that the coach is warning should not be dismissed lightly.

“They have a lot of top young London players and a few veterans that could play at a much higher level.

“It will be much closer than people think and that makes me slightly anxious. We want to keep our Cup streak going and win it for a third time on the run, but we know they will be tough.”

Anyone attending Saturday's game against Coventry (7.30pm) can claim free entry to Sunday's with Brixton (5pm). Tickets costs £5 (adults) and £2.50 (juniors/senior. The Amaechi Centre is in the grounds of Whalley Range High School for Girls on Wilbraham Road.
