Matt's final flourish

MATT Miller believes he had his finest hour in Manchester Magic colours to drive the team to their second final of the season.

Now the all-action American wants to go one better and collect another piece of silverware.

Point guard Miller was Magic's main man when they scooped their first senior trophy, the National Cup, in January.

And he shone again as Magic powered their way past Reading Rockets to overturn a semi-final first-leg deficit on Saturday and claim a place in the play-off final.

Miller and co face champions Worthing Thunder - the team they beat to win the Cup - at Newcastle's Metroradio Arena on Sunday and he is determined to enjoy the occasion and collect another prize.

"It is going to be another battle against Worthing, a war," said Miller. "But we will train hard and enjoy the week and the build-up to the game.

"It is another final for us and we just want to enjoy it and embrace the moment.

"It is great to get to another big game at another big arena and a great day out for the fans.

"To get to two of the these in a season is unbelievable."

Criticism

Miller faced some criticism from coach Jeff Jones for a below-par performance in the first leg against Reading - which Magic lost 78-71 - and was not shy about accepting it.

"I was terrible," he said. "I felt I let the team down in that game - I didn't point guard well at all and made the wrong decisions."

The same couldn't be levelled at him after Saturday's amazing comeback show, when Magic won 108-92 (179-170 on aggregate) and Miller shone with 31 points.

"It was just one of those nights," he said. "It was probably my best game for Magic - my shots dropped, John Cagianello's did, Stefan Gill's did. It was amazing against the best defensive team in the league.

"It was a fantastic team effort and a great win."

Miller, recruited from Bellarmine University, Kentucky, is delighted with his first season in English basketball after making a step into the unknown to join Magic.

"I really had no clue of what to expect," he said. "It has gone fantastically well. To have the opportunity to end this year on a high after already winning one championship is great."

Jones has already made it clear that he would like to keep Miller - along with fellow American Cagianello and the rest of his squad - for next season.

"We will deal with this last match first," said Miller.

"Then see what happens in the summer."

Do you think Magic will beat Worthing? Have your say.
