PEOPLE may soon face a sliding charge over how much rubbish they produce.
Such a charge is part of proposals being looked at by the government.
Junior environment minister Ben Bradshaw, also stressed the importance of reducing dependence on landfill for waste disposal and creating more energy from waste.
Welcome
He said: "The government has certainly not ruled out variable charging and we'd welcome people's views on that.
"I think up until now, because we've been able to increase our recycling rates so quickly and so successfully in recent years, we haven't felt we needed for sticks as well as carrots.
"But, of course, financial incentives are very important."
He was speaking ahead of a consultation as part of the government's waste strategy review.

There is no doorstep collection at all and if my recycling builds up to much I am more tempted to just bin it then ruin my new car - that human nature.
Off that point why arnt bar made recycle - they produce tons and tons of glass waste everyday!!!
