As someone who travels via the train from Stalybridge to Manchester to work each day, I was delighted that the article about the crowding on the Northern Rail link to Victoria got results, and extra carriages, albeit on only a couple of trains a day. However, the 7.30 am train is now "comfortable". However, the other day, the usual four carriages arrives, but the first two were crammed solid with "unsafe" "customers" (we've not been passengers for years), and the other carriages were locked, and only unlocked at Stalybridge, when the crammed-in people were allowed to move to seats. Is there a limit to the number of people that can be crammed into a train carriage - surely the Health and Safety Executive must have some say in this? If this is to continue, the addition of extra carriages can only be viewed as a "gesture" by Northern Rail!

I am quite upset with the fact the the local councils are not controlling the ice problem,we need more grit and all the pavements need gritting in the salford region.Somebody is going to get hurt !!

I live on Holt Estate Milnrow and yesterday I caught the 451 bus to Rochdale on Hurstead Road. I caught the same bus back later from the bus station. When we reached Milnrow the bus did not go up Kiln Lane and round the estate. but carried on up the main road. After I asked why the driver told me they could not go up Kiln Lane as it was too dangerous. He said the buses had to go up the main road to Newhey and then on the return trip go round the estate and down Kiln Lane. When I suggested that going up or down was the same and big heavy goods vehicles had been using the road all through the bad weather, I was told, the ice was on the wrong side of the road and you dont ski uphill only down, if you want to go up a motor pulls you. I wonder if the application form for First Bus jobs has any common sense questions.
