Motorists stuck in long delays on the M60 and M62 motorways had a game of football while they waited for the traffic to clear.
Police closed both carriageways of the M60 for two hours from 5.40pm on Thursday after a man threatened to jump off a bridge at junction 17 near Prestwich.
The closure caused major tailbacks on the motorway system to the north and west of Manchester.
Many of those in the queues got out of their cars and some even played football on the closed clockwise carriageway at junction 17.

Queues were stretching back to Eccles interchange on the clockwise carriageway and beyond junction 19 at Heywood on the M62.
Commuters also reported long delays on the other roads around junction 17 where the A56 meets the M60 at Prestwich.

did the police not arrest them for playing football on a MOTORWAY
haha top
all those people put out for one man
What is it with these people threatening to jump of bridges over motorways?
Loads of them recently.
This is happening all too often these days. Why do these attention seekers always chose a motorway bridge? Just imagine all the time wasted and inconvenience caused to all those in the jam. Would it not be possible to sue these people in the courts for compensation?
I dont care how many liberal hippies on here say about the "Jumper" should seek help.
I'll tell you what he should seek, JAIL. Simples
Whoever brought the ball was a Genius, spare tyre - check, jack - check, football - check.
Im sorry i missed out!

apparently city have offered £30 million and £250k a week for him!
this has warmed my heart. a bunch of people brought together by a common inconvenience decided to have a kick-about.
proud to be a mancunian when i hear of things like this. the world isnt such a bad place after all.
While I feel sorry for the person on the bridge, when was the last time somebody who had stood on the bridge for hours actually jumped to their death before the firemen with the big cushion arrived. If the "jumper" was sectioned and kept in hospital for a few months it might deter attention seekers, and genuine peopl ewould get the tretment they need.
Could someone please point out where the ball is please? I am a tad perplexed!
Cruella - If you look at the second photo the ball is just about to be kicked out of the fast lane towards the hard shoulder! Hope that helps and alleviates your anxiety?!
Spot the ball put an X where you think the centre is
It would be easier if the UK allowed people to end their lives with some dignity. To those people blaming the poor man wondering if he should end his life - don't blame him, blame the hand wringing liberal Do Gooders who can't bear to feel responsible in any way if they allow a clinic to terminate someones life painlessly.
Imagine the despair it takes to drive someone to look over that drop and summon up the courage to throw themselves off. People like Dave the skysports obviously cannot do this because they have not an ounce of courage and little or no empathy. Go try looking over the edge and imagine what that drop would be like, then you might understand a little.
Is that a city fan in the middle of the road?
oooooohh the irony!
I saw a similar event last year whilst on the way to Sommerset (again a jumper on a bridge), the motorway was at a standstill northbound and people were playing football and rugby on the motorway.

Termination clinics are quite a liberal idea. I think your confusing yourself chuck. You and Dave are disagreeing, yet both blaming "the liberals".
Remember doing a conga on the motorway on way back from City v QPR midweek game in London during tailback in the 80s. Coppers soon had us all back in the van
Did they kick the ball at the jumper, you know as in jumpers for goalposts. I'll get me coat.
I'm not convinved it's a liberal idea Ignoramus although the opposition does seem to come from all sides to be fair.
Maybe Mancini will pay well over the odds for them ?
