It was revealed in yesterday's M.E.N. that Philip Whittington, 27, from London, was banned from the conference after he was held on suspicion of theft.
He said he always intended to pay for the champagne and it was `misunderstanding' with staff at the Midland Hotel.
He was detained overnight after police were called but later released without charge.
