Churchill's grandson in plea for armed forces help

WINSTON Churchill's grandson has called on politicans to safeguard funding for the armed forces - in a plea echoing the words of his grandfather 80 years ago.

Winston S. Churchill, who is chairman of the United Kingdom National Defence Association (UKNDA), called for a stop to 'defence on the cheap' in an address read to delegates at the Conservative Party conference.

Absent due to illness, his plea was heard at the UKNDA fringe meeting 'Support our Armed Forces - under-funded and over-stretched'.

He said the world was an extremely dangerous place and appealed to politicians to "accord defence and our heroic armed forces the priority they deserve".
