COMEDIAN Eddie Izzard has pulled out of the Labour Party conference after landing a new role in the hit American TV series, 24.

The funnyman, pictured right, was due to appear at a fundraising event for the party's Withington Constituency office, but had to rearrange his plans following an offer from American broadcaster Fox.

Izzard, who has a home in Los Angeles where the series is filmed, cancelled his flight to Manchester to appear in the show as someone trying to bring down the US Government. Instead former Labour leader Neil Kinnock joined about 150 guests at the Yang Sing restaurant on Princess Street for the event, which raised more than é6,000. Eddie Izzard DVDs were auctioned at the event raising é110.
