Research for the GMB union showed that Eastern England has been the hardest hit region in recent months, with almost 2,000 job cuts announced by 16 companies.
Around 1,000 redundancies were announced in Northern Ireland in February alone, said the report, compiled by the Labour Research Department.
GMB general secretary Kevin Curran said: "UK manufacturing is in crisis as the outsourcing phenomenon continues to drain jobs and livelihoods from our heartlands.
"We have the skills, capacity and experience to keep these jobs in the UK. All we need is the determination of chief executives and the Government to ensure that our manufacturing sector can thrive."
More than 5,500 manufacturing jobs were cut last month, taking the total so far this year to 12,024, said the GMB. Tweet

My husband has just been made redundant once again in the engineering manufacturing industry. This is the 7th time during his working life and it appears that the government would rather send the work abroad to countries that do not manufacture up to the British standard of work. Many times they have to correct work that has been completed abroad and there is no compensation for the bad workmanship as they only say that it was ok when it left their factory. There are more and more companies making people in the UK redundant because they say they can get work done cheaper abroad. What a cost to our skilled workers and eventually there will be no manufacturing done in this country unless the government helps companies here. Who will then support the unemployed as if nobody is working there will be no money to pay the benefits with. It is time Mr Blair and his cronies started to look after their own country instead of countries abroad.
Very disallusioned.
