HE may make some folk stick fingers in their ears and others run for cover but Manchester's most well-known busker still has the support of the city's public.
Marc Bolan, who changed his name by deed poll to that of the late T-Rex front man, hit the headlines after the Manchester Evening News revealed his next-door neighbour in Old Trafford complained he plays his music late into the night.
But Marc has refused to be silenced and after the row became public he was in his usual spot outside Boots in Market Street in Manchester city centre "treating" shoppers to his unique rendition of a medley of T-Rex classics, including a three-minute version of Jitterbug Love.
The M.E.N. took to the streets to canvas the opinion of shoppers.
Entertainment
Some distinctly quickened their pace when they approached Marc, who madly plucked the strings of his well-worn guitar, but many others afforded him a knowing smile and gave him their spare change.
Bob Keita, 33, a builder from Blackley, said: "He is entertainment. When people are passing by they stop and listen to him. If you are sad and listen to him then your mind changes."
Andy Shaw, 20, a builder from Stretford, said: "He is great and is proper entertainment. I just love the way he plays his guitar."
Lee Faulkner, 21, from Oldham, said: "He is well entertaining. He does not get much money so what else is he going to do?"
Kerry McCulley, 17, from Northern Moor, admitted Marc provides entertainment value, but said: "It is a bit strange and I cannot make out what he is singing."
Staff at Boots, where Marc has played for many of his 18 years busking, have become used to his unusual vocals. One said: "It sounds terrible but he has been about for years and I suppose he does no harm."
What do you think of busker Marc Bolan's music?
If you are a worse busker, send us an audio clip so that we can compare.

What a shame he is allowed to continue while the brilliant blues guitarist and singer 'Hoochie Coochie Mancunian' was apparently banned!!!

The sooner he is cleared off the streets the better. I feel sorry for the shop assistants nearby having to put up with this row all day.

Any monies earnt should be put to better use in miming lessons, after which he'll be less offensive to the ears.
He's not even funny as people in work have to walk past him at least once a day.
Lock him up for abuse of a musical instrument!

I cant believe Hoochie Coochie Mancunian has been banned...that guy was the opposite end of the scales to Marc Bolan, he was fantastic, its disgraceful!
