A GOLF course will be extended - thanks to the people who wanted it scrapped.

Fairfield Golf & Sailing Club, in Denton, was saved in April when developers ditched plans for a business park on the 18-hole course and greenbelt land, known as Waterside Park.

It brought to an end a bitter 13-year battle which had resulted in a public inquiry.

Now, in a remarkable turn of events, Fairfield's members have joined forces with landowner United Utilities to discuss a new business and residential development on brownfield land, just a short walk from the original site.

United Utilities have agreed to extend Fairfield and enhance the club's sports facilities. Tweet
