School league tables

The tables rank schools according to grades at AS and A level - the grades are then translated into points.

Students start their first year by taking subjects at AS level. At the end of that year they can drop one or more of the subjects and still achieve an AS level pass.

If they decide to continue with a subject for a second year this can be converted into a full GCE A level pass. Alternatively students can choose to take vocational subjects, such as health and social care or travel and tourism, which are known as VCE A levels, and can count as a double award with twice the points of a GCE A level, depending on the number of modules taken.

HOW THE POINT SCORES ARE CALCULATED

Explanation GCE/VCE AS GCE/VCE A Level VCE A Level Double Award Score
For the A/AS Level indicators, the tables use a point score system based on the tariff used by UCAS. It is broken down according to the table on the right.
EXAMPLE: If a student achieves 2 GCE A Levels at Grade B, a VCE A Level at grade C and a GCE AS pass at grade D, they would score 310 points (100+100+80+30)
