POLICE and community leaders today appealed for calm after a father-of-two was murdered in a drive-by shooting.
Ucal Chin, 24, suffered fatal gun shot wounds while he was at the wheel of a Renault Megane on Anson Road, in the Victoria Park area of Longsight.
A passenger in the car was hurt and another fled the scene after six or seven shots were fired at the Megane from a light-coloured saloon car, which had pulled up alongside.
It was the fifth drive-by shooting in south Manchester's notorious gangland in a week.
Today, posthumous Father's Day tributes were left at scene of the shooting where Chin was gunned down.
A Father's Day card was at the centre of a floral tribute laid at the foot of temporary fencing at the scene of the shooting. Signed by 'Reithius and Sierra-Leone', the card said: "We will miss you and never forget you."
A small Father's Day cup is fixed on to the temporary fencing
next to the card and says simply: 'Fab Dad Cup.' In another message
signed by his 'wife Aalanda', she writes: "I will always love you -
You will always be here. You were my light, my heart, my life. Love
always."
Detectives said it was too early to say whether the shooting was
gang-related, although it is understood Mr Chin was known to the
police.
Supt John O'Hare, of Longsight police, said: "Once again we are dealing with the death of a young man who is killed in violent circumstances on one of our streets. We are appealing for calm and restraint in those communities and for any witnesses to come forward and support what is now a murder enquiry.
"There have been a number of shootings but it's too early to say whether this is linked to the previous incidents."
Mr Chin suffered wounds to his upper body. The shooting happened between the junctions with Dickenson Road and Denison Road.
