House prices go through roof

PROPERTY prices across Greater Manchester have gone through the roof in the past five years - even in areas which may not appear particularly attractive to prospective buyers.

On the whole, the trend has been ever upwards, though there have been occasional dips on the graph, often during winter months.

In Wigan, prices have rocketed in the past year alone, and in Standish the average cost of a modest terrace is now just short of '80,000, not far off twice the sum it would have cost 12 months ago.

A typical three-bed semi in the same area of Wigan could be anything between '90,000 to '100,000.

In Bolton it's a similar story. Property prices have gone up all round, though the bigger increases have been in rural and semi-rural areas.

At Harwood, the average cost of a brick built terrace is now around '72,000, while a three-bed semi will be about '90,000.

In Stockport, property prices have increased steadily over the past seven years.
