Devastated community united in prayer

RESIDENTS of Crumpsall joined together for special prayers yesterday for Stephen Oake.

More than 100 parishioners were at St Mary with St Matthew's Church to hear the Rev Anne-Marie Bird dedicate the first half of the service to Dc Oake.

She said: "The touch of terrorism on Crumpsall and his death in our community has affected us deeply."

Her address was followed by a period of silence, then children were invited to light a candle in memory of Dc Oake. It was on a table by a photograph of the detective and his family.
