THE expelled teenager at the centre of an education row was being taught at home today.

A dispute continued between school governors and teachers threatening to strike if the boy is allowed back into class. The 14-year-old was given work to complete at home in Ashton-in-Makerfield, near Wigan.

As reported in yesterday's Manchester Evening News, the pupil was permanently excluded from Byrchall High for persistent unruly behaviour.

He had been excluded from class eight times and given 69 detentions for carrying out attacks on fellow pupils, vandalism and abusive behaviour.

Head teacher Stephen Wall ordered his expulsion before Christmas, but governors overruled him. Teaching unions accused them of ''getting it spectacularly wrong'' and are working with Wigan education authority to resolve the situation.
