Stars come out for Ryan

STARS of sport and screen paid tribute to Manchester United star Ryan Giggs at a glittering gala dinner in his honour.

Ryan was joined at the Midland Hotel in Manchester on Saturday night by his team-mates past and present to celebrate his testimonial season at Old Trafford.

Guests were treated to a film of Ryan's best Manchester United moments from his ten years as a regular in the first team - as well as some footage of Ryan as an ambitious youngster.

Entertainment on the night was provided by 70s disco legends Sister Sledge.

Ryan and his family, including mum Lynn and sister Bethany, even joined the girls on stage to sing along to their hit "We are Family".

Celebrate

More than 400 guests had paid £150 a head to help Ryan celebrate his ten years at Old Trafford.

Football pundit Andy Gray compered the evening, while Frank "Foo Foo" Lamarr conducted the auction which raised thousands of pounds for Ryan's three favourite charities, Manchester Kids, Destination Florida and Pendlebury Children's Hospital.

Guests included all Ryan's Manchester United team-mates and their wives, manager Sir Alex Ferguson, and former Reds' stars Paul Ince, Gary Pallister, Bryan Robson and Mark Hughes.

Goalkeeper Fabien Barthez flouted the black tie dress code by wearing trainers.

Coronation Street stars Steven Arnold, Michael Le Vell, Chris Bisson and Sean Wilson were joined by Royle Family star Ralf Little and his TV presenter girlfriend Lisa Rogers.

Sir Alex honoured Ryan with a tribute speech and described his star player as a credit to the club.

Prizes on offer in the auction included signed Manchester United shirts, and the signed match ball from Saturday's game against Blackburn Rovers, which was promptly snapped up by Posh Spice Victoria Beckham.
