A CITY centre college - thrown into crisis after being slammed for its standards of teaching, management and results - is to merge.
The future of Shena Simon College has been in doubt since a report by Further Education Funding Council inspectors highlighted shortcomings in July.
Supporters of the college hoped it could continue independently but governors have now agreed that the college will merge with one of its competitors.
Tomorrow college governors will decide whether Shena Simon will merge with City College or Manchester College of Arts and Technology (MANCAT).
Coun Simon Ashley, a governor at the college, said: ''We have decided on merger, but we won't decide who with until later this week.''
