Historic show is streets ahead!

SEVEN out of 10 people watching TV tuned into the live episode of Coronation Street last night, it has been claimed.

Electricity bosses geared up for massive surges in demand during the breaks in the hour-long historic broadcast.

Viewers saw the cast prove themselves to be true professionals during the special edition to celebrate the soap's 40th anniversary. Fans watched with bated breath to see how their favourite characters would cope under the intense pressure of the marathon live show.

But - save for the odd touch of nerves - the record-breaking show's stars reeled off their lines as they would in a normal day's filming. Scriptwriters had saved some dramatic story lines for the show, including cameo appearances by Prince Charles and rock star Noddy Holder.

The Prince had visited the cast earlier in the day, during a tour of Manchester.

After the show, the actors celebrated with a party at the Granada studios.
